What we're all about

We're a social enterprise with 100% of our profits going to The Calgary Dream Centre.

Change Is Good is a social enterprise owned and operated by The Calgary Dream Centre. As a donation-based secondhand clothing store, we focus on the curation of preloved clothing and housewares as well as featuring products from local independent businesses. 100% of our profits go back to the life-changing addiction programs offered at The Calgary Dream Centre.

What is a social enterprise?

A social enterprise is a business that uses entrepreneurial methods to accomplish social good, often feeding profits to a larger parent charity or non-profit. At Change Is Good, our social enterprise operates out of the non-profit The Calgary Dream Centre.

Our combination business model offers:

1. Secondhand clothing sourced via donations

2. A curated vintage collective

3. Local wholesale and retail goods

About The Calgary Dream Centre

The Calgary Dream Centre has been guiding men and women out of addiction and homelessness since 2003. Starting as a men’s treatment centre in a converted hotel on Macleod Trail, The CDC now supports 370 men and women through an addiction recovery program and transitional housing.

There are currently 24 individuals in the recovery program, who enjoy amazing benefits such as one-one-one support, three meals per day, group support AA/NA Meetings, alumni support, a gym membership, and equine and woodshop programming.

Our story thus far.

Change Is Good began online in 2020 as a pilot project by Heather Jansen, an employee of The Calgary Dream Centre. The concept was to divert excess clothing donations to an online platform in order to raise funds and to expand the demographic of The Calgary Dream Centre's donor base. After running the project for a few months, Change Is Good was officially taken on as a social enterprise of The Calgary Dream Centre!

We got the keys to our dream brick and mortar location on October 1st and opened our doors to the public on December 7th of 2021. Our Inglewood storefront currently houses a main floor filled with curated clothing donations, vintage housewares, small goods and local makers. We also have our Change Is Good collective, a mezzanine filled with local vendors who specialize in curating and selling vintage collections.

Interested in donating?

We are so grateful for the community donations that allow us to operate! Donations can be dropped off at our storefront or at The Calgary Dream Centre (directions).

Nothing that is donated ever goes to waste. All donations end up in one of three places: our storefront to be sold, our community resource room as free clothing for those involved in our programs, or to the South East Community Resource Centre.
